Firm’s
Responsibility:
Environmental Impact Assessment of the
Itare Dam catchment area, downstream water usage, baseline studies, flood
flows and conservation. Studies on terrestrial ecology, flora and fauna.
Impact on areas of human settlement, re-settlement of affected population
and land tenure. Evaluation, economic estimation and selection of
mitigating measures. Guidelines followed were those of the African
Development Bank and World Bank.

Project Background:
The
catchment area of Itare Dam is located within the South Western Mau and
Trans Mara Forests. This site
was selected to augment current sources of water supply to Nakuru Town.
The
salient features of the Dam Site are:
